The Technological Technical Institute in Basra Holds a Workshop on “The Importance of Preserving the Arabic Language ”

Under the patronage of the Dean of the Technological Technical Institute in Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, the University’s Psychological Counseling Unit, in collaboration with the Arabic Language Preservation Unit and the Media and Government Communication Division at the Institute, organized a workshop entitled “The Importance of Preserving the Arabic Language .”

The workshop, presented by Lecturer Dr. Ali Fakher Habib, was attended by faculty members, staff, and students. The lecturer addressed several key topics, including the current status of the Arabic language within educational institutions, the importance of promoting its use in academic and administrative discourse, and the major challenges it faces amid technological developments and the widespread use of foreign languages.

The workshop emphasized the role of educational institutions in reinforcing linguistic identity and the need to support initiatives that enhance the standard of Arabic and ensure its integrity in official correspondence and scientific activities. A special intervention was also made by the Head of the University’s Arabic Language Preservation Unit, Assistant Lecturer Iyad Hussein Al-Amara, who discussed the importance of correcting foreign or intrusive terms in Arabic, the cognitive implications of colloquial or non-standard expressions on specific audiences, and provided insights into the history of the language and its linguistic schools.

The workshop was held at the Institute’s Conference Hall, reflecting the Institute’s ongoing commitment to cultural awareness, language preservation, and the promotion of Arabic as a core component of academic and institutional identity.
