Under the patronage of Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, Dean of the Technological Technical Institute in Basra, the Institute organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Decision Support Systems.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Hasan Fouad Abbas, Head of the Electronics Technologies Department.
The workshop addressed the concept of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) and their role in assisting physicians and healthcare professionals in making data- and evidence-based clinical decisions. It also explained the operational mechanisms of these systems, relying on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analysis in the medical field.
The speaker presented key applications of AI in healthcare, particularly in disease diagnosis, predicting complications, supporting treatment prescription decisions, and improving clinical case management. The session also included examples of globally implemented intelligent systems in hospitals and medical centers.
Additionally, the workshop discussed technical, ethical, and legal challenges related to the use of AI in medicine, including patient data privacy, information security, algorithm reliability, and the need for regulatory and legislative frameworks to govern the use of these systems within healthcare institutions.
The workshop was attended by faculty members, staff, and students. At the conclusion, a discussion and Q&A session was held, allowing participants to explore the prospects of applying these technologies in the local healthcare environment and their potential integration into student projects and scientific research within the Institute.
