The Institute of Technology in Basrah Organizes a Workshop Entitled “Modern Construction Materials.”
Under the patronage of the Dean of the Institute of Technology in Basrah, Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kamel Shary, the Department of Civil Technologies, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Division, organized a workshop entitled “Modern Construction Materials.” The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Aqeel Mohammed Hammoud and was attended by a number of faculty members and students. This event forms part of the Institute’s ongoing scientific activities aimed at enhancing academic skills and keeping pace with advancements in the engineering field.
The workshop covered several key themes, highlighting major types of modern construction materials, including high-performance concrete, environmentally friendly materials, and smart materials that respond to surrounding conditions, in addition to advanced insulating materials used to reduce energy consumption. It also addressed the key properties of these materials in terms of strength, durability, lightweight characteristics, and cost-effectiveness compared to conventional materials.
The speaker emphasized the importance of adopting modern technologies in construction projects due to their significant role in extending the lifespan of structures, achieving environmental sustainability, improving execution efficiency, and reducing time and effort. Furthermore, the workshop discussed the main challenges facing the adoption of these materials in the local market, along with potential solutions to overcome them. The workshop was held in the Civil Department halls at the Institute.
