Under the patronage of the Dean of the Technical Institute of Basra, Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit and in coordination with the Media and Government Communication Division, organized an awareness workshop entitled \u201cAre You a Victim of Social Engineering Attacks?\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The workshop aimed to promote awareness of digital security and to highlight the risks of cyberattacks targeting individuals and institutions through various deceptive methods that rely on psychological manipulation to obtain sensitive information.<\/p>\n

The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Mahmoud Aref Lafta Al-Shuraida, who discussed social engineering as one of the most dangerous non-technical intrusion methods. He outlined the most common tactics used by attackers to deceive victims, including phishing messages, malicious links, and impersonation of official entities, as well as exploiting users\u2019 trust and lack of awareness to obtain passwords and personal data.<\/p>\n

The workshop also covered several key topics, including an overview of the different types of social engineering attacks and the risks faced by internet and social media users. In addition, a set of practical guidelines and recommendations was presented to help protect personal information and online accounts from breaches and exploitation.<\/p>\n

The session witnessed active engagement from students and staff, with numerous questions and discussions on cybersecurity and methods of preventing online fraud. Real-life examples of security breaches resulting from social engineering tactics were also presented. The workshop was attended by Mr. Ali Mahmoud, Director of the University\u2019s Student Activities Department.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
