Basra Technical Institute Holds Silent Vigil in Commemoration of the Yazidi Genocide<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday morning, Basra Technical Institute held a solemn silent vigil to mark the anniversary of the Yazidi genocide and the mass atrocities committed against other ethnic and religious minorities in Iraq. The observance, held annually on August 3, was organized in accordance with a directive from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was conducted under the guidance of Professor Dr. Adnan Abdullah Atiq, President of Southern Technical University, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, Dean of the Institute.<\/p>\n

The participants observed a moment of silence, during which vehicular movement around the Institute was suspended, in tribute to the souls of Iraqi martyrs and the victims of the heinous crimes perpetrated against the Yazidi community and other minority groups.<\/p>\n

In a statement delivered during the vigil, Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary emphasized that this act of remembrance represents a genuine expression of humanitarian solidarity and a principled rejection of all forms of violence, hatred, and extremism. He further underscored the importance of fostering peaceful coexistence and promoting the values of tolerance within Iraqi society.<\/p>\n

This initiative is part of a broader series of commemorative events organized annually by Southern Technical University to honor national and humanitarian causes\u2014reaffirming the university’s ongoing commitment to preserving collective memory, upholding human dignity, and fostering unity among all components of the Iraqi people.<\/p>\n
