Basra Technical Institute Marks Arbaeen Pilgrimage with Awareness Campaign Against Extremism and Drug Abuse
Basra Technical Institute Launches Awareness Campaign Against Extremism and Drug Abuse During the Arbaeen Pilgrimage
Under the direction of Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, Dean of Basra Technical Institute, the Institute launched an educational awareness campaign targeting pilgrims of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about the dangers of extremism, sectarianism, violence, and the growing threat of drug abuse.
As part of the campaign, volunteers distributed informative posters and brochures directly to pilgrims. These materials carried messages promoting tolerance, warning against violent and destructive behaviors, and emphasizing the importance of social cohesion in protecting both individuals and the wider community.
The campaign saw active field participation from Assistant Professor Dr. Diyah Kammel Shary, Dean of the Institute; Mr. Murtadha Mohammed Bandar, Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Mr. Duraid Habeeb Ali, University Liaison Officer; and Mr. Ali Mahmoud, Director of Student Activities at the Southern Technical University.
Also participating were the Head of the Student Activities Division at the Institute, the Head of the Legal Division, representatives of the Media and Government Communications Unit, several staff members, and a dedicated group of student volunteers.
This campaign is part of a broader series of initiatives undertaken by the Institute, reflecting its strong commitment to community engagement and public awareness—particularly during religious occasions that bring together large segments of society and present meaningful opportunities for outreach and education
