Under the patronage of Dr. Dhiaa Kamel Shari, Assistant Professor and Dean of the Technical Technological Institute in Basra,
the Department of Production Engineering Technologies held a workshop titled “Solar Energy” on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The session was delivered by Engineer Miyad Ismail Mohammed. The workshop focused on understanding energy, its importance, types, and mechanisms of operation. It highlighted the value of adopting renewable energy sources in line with global technological advancements. Given the extremely high temperatures in the city of Basra, the discussion emphasized the need to harness solar power as a clean, carbon-free, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional electricity sources. This transition would also reduce noise pollution and dependency on fuel-powered generators. Additionally, the workshop addressed practical aspects of solar-powered home design, noting that the cost of solar installation has significantly decreased in recent years. The participants expressed hope that, in the near future, the university would be fully powered by solar energy.
